No veteran should ever come home without a real welcome. Operation Welcome Home (OWH) was started to make sure that never happens again. OWH volunteers, upon prior invitation, will go wherever requested to greet any veteran upon their return. A simple ceremony of clapping, a display of flags and singing “God Bless the USA” will bring a smile to the veterans face.
Studies have shown that a good welcome home decreases PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) by 20%.
OWH also works with the families while the soldiers are over seas by forming support groups and sending letters and packages to the troops. When the soldiers are home we continue our work by helping them reintegrate back into society, assist them in receiving available benefits, filing claims and have volunteers help with baby sitting and household chores.
Honor Your Loved One
Invite us to be a part of celebration the homecoming of your favorite veteran. OWH volunteers will come to any location of your choice (airport, bus station, home, or other) and conduct a simple ceremony of clapping, a display of flags and singing “God Bless the USA”. This is sure to bring a smile to the veterans face, we know, we have seen it many times.
This is a great way to show your returning veteran that their community really does care. Every veteran will receive, as our gift, a bag containing important information concerning their rights as veterans, as well as gifts donated by our local merchants.
There is no cost to you, it is our way of saying “Thanks”. It is easy to arrange your event, just email or call the center and let us know the best way to get in touch with you and one of our staff will contact you to get all the details.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
We need volunteers but the most important factor is finding out when the soldier is returning, we therefore must get the word outs the families can contact us.
Be a part of the Operation Welcome Home team. Come out to welcome home events and show our veterans that you care. Everyone is welcome, there are no requirements and no dues. Our veterans were there when you needed them, show them that you are there for them!
It is easy to sign up and get notified of upcoming events. Just email or call Sharon Russell and let us know who you are and how you would prefer to be contacted regarding welcome home events.
Volunteers will be notified by email or phone when a welcome home event is scheduled. If you are available to participate at that time, you are welcome to join us. We ask only that you wear some red, white, and blue and bring a flag to wave, if you have one.
It is a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience!
